Unable to create directory "/home/mysite/public_html/LinkEx/data/backup/"

I have chmod the folder linkex to 777.

I also tryed to create "data" folder manually and chmod that folder to 777.
After that, I checked if it has created the new folders, and it did!
But when I go to linkex directory, I cant see the registration page anymore!
Appears an page with "Rules", "Linking Details", etc... But appears that:
<a href="" title=""></a>

And I can't login!

do you have safe_mode enabled?

I changed safe_mode to off and permissions to 755 and now it works.
