Bugs » Install Error

added on Jun 1, 2009 by Mark Newton-Carter
Linkex was running fine on our old server but since we moved hosts I cannot get it to work.

After creating the linkex folder I receive an error message as follows:

Unable to create directory "/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/linkex/data/backup/"

I then changed the permissions as follows:
linkex folder - 777
index.php - 755
but got the same error message.

Finally I got "Unable to write to UID file"

The data directory was set up automatically but the backup directory was never created despite changing the permission
of the data folder to 777.

I know this problem has been posted before but the post was old and discontinued.

Can anyone advise me please. I think this is a great program and would really like to have it up and running again.

Hi Mark,

can you please tell me the ownership and permissions on the data folder? It was created by LinkEX, correct?

Originally "Apache" but when it didn't work I deleted it and remade it so that it belonged to me. I then
changed the permission again to 777 but still the error persisted.

Hi,

can you try again. Delete the entire linkex folder, then create it again chmod it to 777, and try the installer?

I tried this several times. To no avail. Unfortunate really cos I like the program.

Tried again. Deleted the folder. I even downloaded the package from this site again. Unzipped, uploaded the linkex
folder using ASCII, chmoded the linkex folder to 777, ran the setup in the browser but got the same error as originally
stated. You know, I really want this package to work. I had it working on my other server and it was great. I will
keep trying to figure it out, but if some has any ideas at all I would love to hear them. My host is UKFast if anyone
has experience with them.

Looks like I'm writing to myself here - LOL!

Problem fixed. The fault was on my server setup. I had PHP Safe mode switched on. Simple as that really. It works
fine now.

Thanks all for your help.
