Feature requests » Put a password on the directory

added on Jun 29, 2009 by Webmaster
Hello,

I would like to change the linkex directory name to another name ( exemple links ) and put a password on it so google
doesn't crawl it nor recognize that i use linkex. The problem is, files in /data/output will also have a password and i
won't be able to use the script.

Would it be possible to put the files of /data/output in other directory than linkex? And how to do it so it still
connect to the script?

Thank you.

That's pretty strange. Google doesn't really care if you use linkex. If you
don't want google to crawl that folder, read up on how to use your "robots.txt"
file, lots of docs available to you so I won't explain here. The only reason
you might want to do that is to hide it from people searching for sites with
linkex installed, but they could find your site's linkex because other sites
will reference your link and they have linkex.

And google is going to find your links to other sites and the links back,
because you will put them out there for people to find, right?

So I really don't understand what you are trying to do. I see pageranked
sites with linkex up to PR 4, they aren't having problems with google knowing
they use linkex. I think google pretty much knows what's going on, and the
thing I can't see them able to detect is the ABC links, but you have to be
careful not to blow it and never link back to the "other" site that puts your
link up.

Have fun and don't worry so much.
